About Gorron and how to get there

About Gorron and maps

Gorron is the small village where Audrey grew up like a good French girl - but helas, all that goodness was lost the minute she met a certain Danish guy hehe. :D The village counts about 3000 inhabitants, and is located at the corner where the Brittany and Normandy regions meet, 3 and ½ hours west from Paris.

Your options

Depending on where you come from, you will want to do one of the following:

  • If you come from the US: of course you can swim in, but we´d rather suggest flying. The closest and best (so to say) airport to fly to is Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG) in Paris. From there, you can either:

    • Rent a car and drive. The drive from CDG to Gorron should take you about 3 and ½ hours -see driving directions below.

    • Take the train to either the Laval, Rennes or Le Mans stations directly from CDG. If you let us know then we can arrange for someone to pick you up there! hehe, within reasonable amounts of people taking the train. To buy train tickets, go to the SNCF site here.

  • If you come from a European country: You can fly to several airports. Charles de Gaulle or Orly in Paris, as well as the airport of Rennes or that of Nantes. Then you can either:

    • Rent a car and drive. The drive from CDG to Gorron should take you about 3 and ½ hours, that from Nantes about 2 hours, and the drive from Rennes about an hour -see driving directions below.

    • Take the train to either the Laval, Rennes or Le Mans stations. If you let us know then we can arrange for someone to pick you up there! hehe, within reasonable amounts of people taking the train. To buy train tickets, go to the SNCF site here.

If you wish/can, you can also take the train the whole way...or drive the whole way for the couragious ones! Again, the closest train stations to Gorron are Laval, Rennes and Le Mans.

Lodging

Hostel: Gîte de la Colmont

For people coming from far away, we have already booked a hostel, the Gîte de la Colmont, for the weekend of the wedding - Friday and Saturday nights. The Gîte can host about 60 people, and is conveniently located right in the "center" of the village, by Gorron´s park, with a view on the small lake. It is also quite close to Audrey´s parents´ house -well I guess in villages nothing is really to far away :). If you wish to stay there, let us know ASAP so that we can save you a spot. There are 4-5 beds per room (+one bathroom per room), and we will try to put people together as much as possible.

The Gîte also has with a big kitchen and dinning room, a recreation room with a TV and couches, foosball table, pool table....so you guys should be able to have some fun!

Hotel(s)

We put the s of hotel(s) in parenthesis because, well, there really only is one hotel in the village :) The hotel is called Hotel de Bretagne. Like the Gîte de la Colmont, it is also very conveniently located by Gorron´s park and small lake. To reserve a room, call :+33 2 43086367. Also let us know if you are booking a room there. Click here to access their website.

Of course if you have a car and don´t mind driving a bit, there are other hotels within a 20-minute drive: look in towns such as Ambrière-Les-Vallés, Mayenne, Fougères (let us know if you need help!)...but of course, think about the good old "don´t drink and drive", because you KNOW there will be lots of wine and champagne flowing, and many Gammel Dansk toasts to be made!

House rentals

If you are coming with your little family and would like to rent a house in the area to stay for a few days, go check the official website of the Gîtes de France , and you can do it all from there!

Stay with friends and family

Just so you know, if needed, we always have the possibility to have you stay with someone from Audrey´ family or friends. So, if we run out of all the options mentioned above, don´t you worry, you will not have to sleep in the streets -or fields might be more appropriate here hehe!

Babysitting

Quite a few of you have babies or young infants, and while there are more than welcome at the party (we will try to get a room next to the reception where you can put a bed), we also understand that you might want to find a babysitter for the night so you can party without any worries. If that is the case, let us know as much in advance as possible, and we will try to arrange something for you.

Things to do

In Gorron

Not that we don´t think that you will be already plenty busy with the wedding, but in case you need some ideas :) Gorron has:

  • a swimming pool (with a roof that opens when the weather is nice)

  • quite a few paths to go out on walks

  • a menhir!

  • a small cinema and a library (médiathèque) for you brainy ones out there :)

  • a small recreational park where you can play swing golf, do "accro-branch" etc

In the Normandy/Brittany area

  • The Mont Saint Michel (picture on the right) is probably the most amazing thing - you do not want to miss while you are in the area. This fortified village is unique in the world, built on the sandbeach and gets surrounded by water at high tides. For more info, click here.

  • If you like history, you will find some of the most important D-day beaches, US cimetaries and museums etc about a couple hours away

  • The costal area of northern Brittany is always breathtaking. Go visit the fortified city of St Malot,pr go to the "Côte de Granite Rose" (pic).

  • Of course, the region also has its fair share of castle, from all sorts of eras: go check out the castle of Lassay-les-Châteaux or that of Fougères (both about 20 minutes from Gorron), or a bit farther to that of Angers and Le Plessis Macé.
